AumOui loves working with Neem!  It's scent is reminiscent of mustard leaves, so the 'medicinal' impression will leave you satisfied that it is a powerful plant.  Look for AumOui soaps, masks, and lotions, on its own and in combination with other powerful botanicals.

Neem, particularly neem oil derived from the seeds of the neem tree (Azadirachta indica), has been used for centuries in traditional medicine and skincare due to its various beneficial properties:

  1. Antibacterial and Antimicrobial:  Neem oil contains compounds like azadirachtin and nimbidin that have potent antibacterial and antimicrobial properties. It can help fight bacteria on the skin's surface, making it beneficial for acne-prone skin.

  2. Anti-Inflammatory:  Neem oil possesses anti-inflammatory properties that can help soothe irritated or inflamed skin. It may aid in reducing redness, swelling, and discomfort associated with certain skin conditions.

  3. Antioxidant Rich:  Rich in antioxidants like carotenoids, vitamin E, and other beneficial fatty acids, neem oil helps protect the skin from oxidative stress caused by free radicals, potentially slowing down the aging process.

  4. Moisturizing:  Neem oil is a rich source of fatty acids and vitamin E, providing intense moisturization to dry or rough skin, making it softer and more supple.

  5. Anti-Fungal Properties:  It can help combat fungal infections, making it useful in addressing issues like athlete's foot or nail fungus.

Applications of Neem Oil:

  • Spot Treatment for Acne:  Apply a small amount of diluted neem oil directly onto acne spots to harness its antibacterial properties. Mix a few drops of neem oil with a carrier oil like coconut or jojoba oil to avoid irritation.

  • Skincare Masks:  Create a DIY face mask by mixing neem oil with other beneficial ingredients like honey, yogurt, or aloe vera. This can be applied to the face for around 10-15 minutes before rinsing off.

  • Scalp and Hair Care:  Neem oil can be used in hair treatments to address dandruff or a dry, itchy scalp. Mix it with a carrier oil and massage it into the scalp before shampooing.

It is important to note:

  • Patch Test: Always perform a patch test before using neem oil, especially if you have sensitive skin or allergies, to ensure you don't have any adverse reactions.

  • Dilution: Neem oil can be potent, so it's best to dilute it with a carrier oil before applying it to the skin to avoid irritation.

While neem oil offers various benefits, individual responses to natural products can differ.  Consult a dermatologist if you have specific skin concerns or if you experience any unexpected reactions when using neem oil.
